The main event world championship gold in wife-carrying travels to the United States for the first time, as Caleb Roesler and Justine Roesler won the competition with a new course record time of 1:01.17. In second place came the highly successful Lithuanian duo Vytautas Kirkliauskas and Neringa Kirkliauskiene, while the multiple-time world champions Taisto Miettinen and Katja Kovanen took third.“
There aren’t many wives in the world who would agree to this,” the newly crowned world champion Caleb Roesler praised his wife after the competition.
In the highly competitive event, fourth place went to a first-time participant in the sport, Severi Allonen, who was named Finland’s strongest man last year, paired with social media star Karla Könönen.
Joni Juntunen’s Team Takes Victory in the Team Competition
In the wife-carrying team competition, the world championship was won by the team named Team Big Beef, consisting of Joni Juntunen, Elliot Storey, John Lund, and Siiri Koskinen. The team competition’s second place went to Severi Allonen, Jani Kumpulehto, and Samuli Lappeteläinen, carrying Venla Luukkonen. Third place was secured by the team representing the municipality of Sonkajärvi: Ville Wäisänen, Heikki Korolainen, Ville Kamaja, and Iina Hirvonen.
Approximately 2,000 Spectators at Wife-Carrying Event on Saturday
The Wife-Carrying World Championships were held in Sonkajärvi for the 28th time.This year, the event attracted around 2,000 spectators.
